Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Victoria Ocampo (1890-1979) was the founder of the legendary Sur magazine, one of the most influential literary magazines of its time. A writer, publisher, translator, and editor, Victoria was above all a modern and courageous woman, just like the fragrance created in her honor: a decided contrast between creamy tuberose and opulent oud that represent a profound and sophisticated strength. Victoria was a patron of the arts and the first woman to be admitted to the Argentine Academy of Letters (1976). She was "the quintessential Argentine woman" according to the famous Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges. Her circle included some of the most important artists and intellectuals of the twentieth century. For four decades, Sur served as a cultural bridge between South America, North America, and Europe. Among the writers published in Sur are Jorge Luis Borges, Simone de Beauvoir, Silvina Ocampo, Virginia Woolf, T.S. Eliot, Albert Camus, James Joyce, and Federico García Lorca.
