Borderline Neroli - La Serra
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a mental condition that is part of Cluster B of Personality Disorders in the DSM-V. The aspect of this condition that the perfume aims to portray is the internal struggle to maintain one's self-image and sense of self (identity). Those who have experienced this symptom typically report frequently changing their hairstyle, way of dressing, attitude... in a continuous search for a stable identity, which is often made even more complicated by the marked impulsivity typical of this personality structure. In a relationship, there is a clash between the peace of total love and the violence of visceral hatred, feelings that can commonly alternate within a few days, or even multiple times a day, without the partner of a Borderline individual having significantly altered their behavior. This brief was given to Master Perfumer Olivier Cresp, father of the Gourmand facet, awarded Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres since 2012, to create a Floral composition centered around two white flowers with completely opposite meanings and renderings: a celestial Neroli (essential oil extracted from the bitter orange blossom) and a violent Tuberose. If Neroli portrays the joy of a heavenly peace of delicately velvety citrus in which to lose oneself to reconcile with oneself, Tuberose is an impetuous, overwhelming flower with a penetrating, sensual, and narcotic scent.
